FOLK ART DRAWING AND PAINTING (ages 7-12) with Rachel Yoder

Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Art is a tradition that has roots in Berks and Montgomery Counties. Students will learn about fraktur art and the popular PA Dutch folk art motifs (hearts, tulips, unicorns, mermaids and distlefinks). Traditionally artists used watercolor and ink, and we will do the same! Students will create their own crayon resist water color paintings focusing on symmetry, color palette and what the motifs symbolize to them.

In this 4-week class, we will explore different fraktur art themes including: tree of life, birds, hearts, hex signs, mermaids, unicorns and people. We will learn how to use using pencils, crayons, ink pens, markers and watercolor paints to create our own original fraktur art. We will be also leading how to use crayon resist watercolor technique to create our beautiful pieces.

All supplies included. Minimum 4 students needed for this class to run. WINTER SPRING SESSION begins April 7. Class runs Tuesdays from 4:30-6pm for 4 weeks. $80 (members), $90 (non-members).
