Communication abounds in the human environment – letters combine into messages to create meaning, and through shape, color, material, and placement contribute to the visual complexity of our worlds. Through their very physicality, many of these messages outlive their usefulness, accuracy, and potency, passing into the unacknowledged background of our experience.
My current work gives consciousness to these unremarked messages. Softening the geometries of structures, signs and type, I examine subtle colors, shades and highlights. By exploring the environment with openness to these messages, I constantly enrich my vision and renew my long fascination with the letter form and the visual message, uniting my art with my experience as a graphic designer for printed material.
